About Douglas Hauer

dougDouglas Hauer, the firm’s founder, has substantial experience in business immigration law, related government investigations, family-based green card sponsorship processes, immigration litigation and corporate immigration policy development. He is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the American Immigration Council (formerly the American Immigration Law Foundation) and has served for two years on the Council’s J-1 Exchange Visitor Committee. Doug is an expert on J-1 training and intern visas and speaks on broader immigration law issues, ethics, marketing and business development and employment immigration law for national and international legal organizations, universities and industry forums. He also assists accomplished individuals in securing visas and green cards.

Douglas Hauer was named a “Rising Star” by SuperLawyers in 2009. He founded his firm with an entrepreneurial vision for building sustainable relationships with clients, law firms and business partners across the globe.  Before founding his firm, Doug was a Partner with a prominent business immigration law firm in Boston, where he managed a high volume of diverse immigration matters ranging from routine H-1B and L-1 visas to complicated matters before U.S. government agencies and U.S. consular posts. His firm now serves as external counsel to large accounting and law firms that seek dedicated and focused expertise in U.S. immigration law for their clients. On numerous occasions Doug has represented high-profile business leaders, artists and public figures in securing permission to live and work in the United States. He also has experience working in partnership with international tax counsel to advise high net worth individuals on the consequences of acquiring or relinquishing U.S. citizenship or permanent residence status.    

In his free time, Doug enjoys his two African Grey parrots, traveling with his spouse to adventurous destinations such as Antarctica, Burma and Africa, and producing documentary film. Doug has lived for extended periods in Germany and Israel. He speaks German and Hebrew and studied Russian and Yiddish during his graduate and undergraduate studies.

Professional and Community Involvement

Douglas Hauer LLC is active in the Boston business community and a strong supporter of nonprofit organizations that advance cultural exchange and global commerce. The firm is a strong supporter of the American Immigration Council (http://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/). Additionally, Douglas Hauer LLC supports the German-American Business Council of Boston, Inc. (“GABC”) and the New England-Israel Business Council. The firm is a corporate sponsor of the GABC for 2010. In the fall of 2009, Douglas Hauer LLC was a Bronze Sponsor of the New England-Israel Life Sciences Summit at Brandeis University.
