Douglas Hauer will serve as faculty on an AILA audio seminar, “Access to Information: FOIA, FBI Requests and Facebook” on September 10, 2009.

On September 10, 2009, Douglas Hauer will serve as faculty on a seminar focused on FOIA requests, FBI requests and Facebook. This seminar, “Access to Information: FOIA, FBI Requests and Facebook,” will address the various means of obtaining and expediting access to government information concerning your client including FOIA, discovery, and working with opposing counsel. The panel will also discuss the new administration’s January 2009 Privacy Act memo and transparency goals, and the impact of social networking sites on the effective preparation and representation of clients.

The discussion will cover:

  • An Overview of FOIA for DOS and DHS, Including the Three Track System Used by USCIS
  • How to Expedite Your FOIA
  • Reviewing FOIA Results and Deciding Whether to Appeal
  • Access to Derogatory Information Used by DOS or USCIS Outside Removal Proceedings
  • Working with Your Counterparts to Access Information.
  • Social Networking Sites-How Can Information from Facebook Be Used for or Against Your Client
